  About Barcelona metro line 2

Planned in the 1960s, in order to plan a wider expansion of the network, the Barcelona metro line 2, known as "Línia lila" (the purple line), was only officially inaugurated in 1995, decades after its initial conception ; making it one of the most recent lines on the network.
Since its opening, the Line 2 has been gradually extended to serve more neighbourhoods ; it now extends from Paral-lel in the city centre at the foot of Montjuic hill and its funicular railway to Badalona Pompeu Fabra, in the north of Barcelona.
As a relatively new line, the L2 benefits from modern technologies in terms of rolling stock and signalling systems.
As well as providing service to major areas of Barcelona, including dense residential areas and touristic destinations such as the Sagrada Familia, the Passeig de Gracia or the Monumental bullring, the violet line offers connections with other metro, tram and train lines, as well as the Montjuic funicular railway, in the aim of facilitating mobility in the whole of the metropolitan area. The Barcelona metro line L2 serves three municipalities (Barcelona, Sant Adrià de Besòs and Badalona).
